How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy actually works

SFH isn't relaxation or positive thinking — it's a clinically recognised approach that works directly with the brain's neuroscience. During hypnosis, your brain enters a deeply focused state that makes it significantly more receptive to change.

Research using brain imaging shows that hypnotherapy measurably reduces activity in the amygdala — your brain's threat detection system — while increasing engagement in the prefrontal cortex, responsible for rational thinking and emotional regulation. At the same time, the hippocampus becomes more open to reprocessing unhelpful patterns, helping break unhelpful patterns at their root.

Will I be in control during hypnotherapy?
Absolutely. Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis. You are always fully aware and in control — it's more like a deeply relaxed, focused state. You won't say or do anything you don't want to.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients notice meaningful change within 3–6 sessions. Laura will always be honest about what to expect. There's no pressure to commit to a long course — you review progress as you go.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes — online sessions work just as effectively as in-person, and many clients prefer them. In-person sessions are available at the practice in Hadleigh, Essex.
What does a session actually involve?
Each session starts with a conversation about how you've been. Then Laura guides you into a relaxed state using her voice — there's no swinging watch or clicking fingers. In this calm state, she works with your subconscious to gently shift unhelpful patterns. You'll leave feeling genuinely calm.
